Celebration of Life for J. Kenneth Torrance - June 4, 2022 at 2:30

Please join us in person (registration required) or on-line for the celebration of life for Kenneth (Ken) Torrance.

Peacefully at home on December 10, 2021, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Margaret for more than 56 years, father of Heather (Mark Reynolds) and Jon and loving grandfather of Kristin and Jacklyn. Predeceased by parents, Harold and Lillian Torrance and sister, Joyce Warner.

Following a BSc degree at University of Guelph, Ken received MSc and PhD degrees from Cornell University, (Ithaca, NY) and a 2-year NATO Post Doctoral Fellowship to the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (Oslo) for LEDA Clay Research.

Returning to Canada in 1970 with infant, Heather, he accepted a position in Geography and Environmental Studies at
Carleton University. In 1975 Ken received an OCUFA Teaching Award and he supervised/mentored at least 24 graduate students. He served twice as Department Chair and continued mentoring till 2021.

Ken, Margaret and family had wonderful adventures around the world including 5 sabbaticals and scholarly annual conferences where they lived and visited the US, Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, et al.

Please join Ken's family at Glebe-St. James United Church at 650 Lyon St. corner of First Avenue, Ottawa at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 4 for a Celebration of Ken's Life followed by a Reception and Storytelling opportunity.  For entry, please RSVP, to 
[email protected]a with names of all those attending and confirmation of your double vaccination status. Masks needed.  Starting around 2:15, on-line viewers can see the service on YouTube (the recording of the service will also be available).
