Please be welcomed to join us this February 9th at 10:30

February 7, 2025

This is the fifth Sunday in the season of Lent; join us as we celebrate Black History.  You can come in person or join our livestream at 10:30.

Rev. Dr. Teresa is away this week providing care for her parents. Joëlle Morgan and Rev. Sue Toller will lead the service. So, as Joëlle and Sue have a unique perspective on Black History, be prepared for something different!

Marsha Hay Snider will welcome us, and Pam Fitch will offer the land acknowledgement. April Yorke will read the scriptures: Lamentations 3:17-18 and Luke 5:1-11.  Our Minister of Music, James Caswell and the choir will lead us in music and song; the anthem will be "Take now my voice" (Douglas Nolan).

In today's message, Joëlle  will ask us to reflect on our United Church that has ignored the presence of people of African descent and the gifts they bring. We just need to open our eyes and see the abundance of women, men, youth and babies who share a common Christianity, and offer us new insights through prayer, music, preaching, food and fellowship. This will involve audience participation!

During the service, people present in the sanctuary will be invited to view these videos.  If you are at home, you can watch by clicking on these links: Spoken word: So I Wait by Jonisha Lewinson

Here is the bulletin for the service to follow along with the words of texts, hymns, songs and prayers. You can join the service live at 10:25 am at this YouTube link; after the service ends it will be available to watch as a recording.

One of the great spiritual questions is this: What do we see when we look at other people? Do we see strangers or neighbours? Problems or possibilities? Labels or beloved children of God? The answer matters, because what we see shapes how we live.
