World Food Sunday - October 18 2026 at 10:30
Please join us, in person or online, this Sunday, Oct 18 as we observe World Food Sunday. Please bring a food donation for Ottawa Public Foods or the Centretown Community Food Bank.

This Sunday is World Food Sunday and we will be collecting for the Centretown Community Food Centre and Ottawa Public Foods. Consider reflecting on the journey of the food you choose to bring—from the earth and those who grow it, to those who transport and prepare it, to the neighbour who receives it. This helps our offerings become an act of gratitude and solidarity, rather than simply a charitable gesture.
Here's what you can expect at Glebe St-James on this Sunday, October 18th:
- Susan Palmai will welcome us.
- Rev. Teresa will also acknowledge that the land on which we gather and work is the traditional and ancestral territory of the Algonquin People, unceded and unsurrendered.
- April Yorke will read the scripture, Matthew 22:15-22.
- Rev. Dr. Teresa Burnett-Cole will lead us in worship and will offer a reflection, "Whose Image Do We Bear?" and will ask us to consider two scenarios: some questions that are asked because someone genuinely wants to know the answer and some are asked because the person asking hopes to catch us out. Which will it be?
- Music Director Paul Grose and the choir will lead us in music and song. The Gift of Music will be "You Reap What You Sow" by Pepper Choplin.
Musical Acknowledgements
This morning's organ prelude, "Air," is by Alan Ridout (1934-1996), a British composer and teacher.
The postlude, "March," is by Andrew Gant (b. 1963), a British composer, singer, author, teacher and politician. The melody features the festival trumpet stop, a chamade stop that on a traditional organ projects horizontally into the room for dramatic effect.
Here is the bulletin for the service which allows you to follow along with the words of texts, hymns, songs, and prayers. You can stream the service live at 10:30 am on YouTube. The announcements are also available here.
