Please join us for the fifth Sunday of Lent - April 6 2025 at 10:30

April 4, 2025

Happy April and welcome to Glebe St James for this fifth Sunday of Lent - join us in person or on-line as you are able.  Peace be with you.  REMINDER:  there is a potluck after church for all that extra food you prepared for last weeks cancelled service!  And games!

Rev. Dr. Teresa Burnett-Cole will lead the service. Ruth Burnett-Cole will welcome us, and Rebecca Dalton will offer the land acknowledgement. Rev. Sue Toller will give the Theme Conversation for children and adults. April Yorke will read the scripture: Habakkuk 1:1-4; 2:1-4 and Luke 19:1-10. Our Minister of Music, James Caswell and the choir will lead us in music and song; the anthem will be "I Give You a New Commandment" by Peter Aston.

It seems that we have to brace ourselves everyday when we listen to the news emanating from south of the border.  The blatant exercise of force, prioritizing the wealthy few over the rest, is hard to take. But todays Gospel reading tells a story of transformation that may offer hope - of a man not only short in stature, but also in moral status among his neighbours who is changed through his encounter with Jesus.  Lets listen to this message.

Here is the bulletin for the service to follow along with the words of texts, hymns, songs and prayers. You can join the service live at 10:25 am at this YouTube link; after the service ends it will be available to watch as a recording.  Reminder there is a potluck and board games after church! Bring that extra food you prepared for last week and your favourite board game.  Lets have fun!

One of the great spiritual questions is this: What do we see when we look at other people? Do we see strangers or neighbours? Problems or possibilities? Labels or beloved children of God? The answer matters, because what we see shapes how we live.
