October 11 Update - GSJ on a learning journey towards Reconciliation

October 11, 2023

News from the Glebe St James ReconciliAction Working Group

We are all on the road to truth, and through truth, to reconciliation, together.

Over the next few months, the ReconciliAction Working Group will be looking at what we are currently doing at Glebe-St. James and what other actions we might be taking to cultivate strong relationships with the First Peoples of Canada. We will examine such topics as our Sunday morning land acknowledgement statement(s); our land use fee; our educational events and activities. We will examine the question of “whose land/territory is it”? Who are the Algonquin Nations on whose traditional territory our sanctuary stands? Who were they then, who are they now? We will learn more about the different non-profit indigenous organizations who provide Ottawa-based services for Indigenous people from many different cultures.

You will have the opportunity to join us on our learning journey over the next few months through such means as our e-updates, church website, or attending our meetings. We hope you find this information useful to your personal growth and reflections on the path to reconciliation.

The ReconciliAction Working Group meets monthly, on the second Tuesday of the month. If you would like to obtain more information, please contact our church administrator, Jennifer Reid at [email protected] or by phone at 613-236-0617 ext. 21 and Jennifer will redirect you to the appropriate contact at Glebe-St. James.
