Please join us for the first Sunday in Advent! December 1st 2024

November 29, 2024

Yes the season is upon us! Let us celebrate with Hope! Join us either in person or via our livestream starting at 10:30 am

Today we celebrate the first Sunday of Advent in which we place emphasis on Hope.  The first Sunday of Advent reminds us that we are not in control. It also provides direction and reassurance amid the chaos and confusion. This first Sunday of the church’s calendar year invites us to suspend our linear notions of time. The season of Advent reminds us of Kairos time: deep time. A time that requires us to suspend the false control of Chronos time. It asks us to move away from dependence on false narratives. We are invited to make meaning of narratives that call on us to wait for God’s realm.

Ruth Burnett-Cole will preside. Jim Louter will welcome us, and Edith Gardell will offer the land acknowledgement. The Rev. Sue Toller will lead the Theme Conversation for children and adults. Wayne MacWhirter will read the scripture: Jeremiah 33:14-16 and Luke 21:25-36. Our Minister of Music, James Caswell and the choir will lead us in music and song; the Gift of Music will be "My Lord, what a mornin’" an African-American Spiritual, arr. H.T. Burleigh.

Here is the bulletin for the service to follow along with the words of texts, hymns, songs and prayers. You can join the service live at 10:25 am at this YouTube link; after the service ends it will be available to watch as a recording.
