Remembrance Sunday - Sunday, November 8, 2026

November 6, 2026

Please join us - in person or online - at 10:30 am EST.

A red poppy is centred. In red text above,

Here's what you can expect at Glebe St-James on this Sunday, November 8:

  • Rebecca Dalton will acknowledge that the land on which we gather and work is the traditional and ancestral territory of the Algonquin People, unceded and unsurrendered.
  • Barb Coyle will read the scripture, Psalm 78:1-7 (responsive reading) and Philippians 4:4-9.
  • Rev. Paul Dillman will lead us in worship and will offer a reflection, "Through them light will shine from the past into the future."
  • Music Director Paul Grose and the choir will lead us in music and song. The anthem is based on the tune FINLANDIA by Jean Sibelius, an orchestral work composed in 1900 in wordless protest against Russian censorship of the Finnish press. This choral arrangement by Gary Fry incorporates Lloyd Stone's poem "This Is My Song" in both English and Zulu.

Musical Acknowledgements

This week's organ prelude is by Gilbert M. Martin (b. 1941), an American composer of organ, choir, and piano works. It is an arrangement of "Old 113th," a hymn tune from the landmark Protestant hymn book Strassburger Kirchenamt of 1525.

The postlude is by John A. Behnke (b. 1953), an American composer, organist, and director of choral and handbell choirs. The tune, NUN DANKET ALLE GOTT, was composed around 1636 in the midst of the devastating Thirty Years' War in Germany.

Here is the bulletin for the service which allows you to follow along with the words of texts, hymns, songs, and prayers. You can stream the service live at 10:30 am on YouTube. The announcements are also available here.

Today, we remember that history. We remember Survivors. We remember the children who never returned home. We remember families and communities who continue to live with the consequences.
